Why Pivot

Where Behavioral Science Meets Crisis Management

Where Behavioral Science Meets Crisis Management

Pivot helps organizations move from reactive response to prevention-driven readiness through an ABA-based system designed to build lasting capability and deliver safer, more consistent outcomes.

Our Mission

Even in the most difficult moments, people deserve dignity and respect.

Founded in 1984 by clinician and behavior analyst Neal Fleisig, Pivot began with a moment that couldn’t be ignored. While leading a high-acuity unit at South Florida State Hospital, Neal witnessed a crisis response that felt instinctive—but wrong. Staff restrained a patient directly on concrete. The harder they held, the more the individual struggled. Harm mounted on both sides. Neal intervened and made one simple change: he moved the individual onto a safety mat. Almost immediately, the resistance stopped.

What changed wasn’t just the surface beneath them—it was the understanding of behavior itself. That moment revealed a fundamental truth: how we respond during a crisis can either intensify harm or restore control. Neal committed to building a system grounded in behavioral science, one that demonstrates that dignity, safety, and effective response are not competing priorities—even in the most difficult moments. That commitment became the foundation of Pivot.

A Partner in Performance-Based Learning

Pivot is more than a training provider. We are a long-term partner in building safe, stable, prevention-centered environments.

What began with a handful of clinicians in Florida has grown to over 100,000 certified professionals worldwide. Along the way, Pivot has evolved from a training vendor into a true partner—supporting organizations with implementation, ongoing coaching, and continuous improvement. Many of our instructors have gone on to mentor others, creating a global network dedicated to humane, effective crisis prevention.

Before Pivot:

  • Behavioral challenges escalate quickly.
  • Staff respond differently depending on experience, stress level, or personal comfort.
  • Some intervene too early. Others hesitate too long.
  • Situations linger, emotions run high, and safety becomes harder to maintain.
  • Time and energy are spent managing disruption rather than supporting progress.

After Pivot:

  • Early signs of escalation are recognized and addressed.
  • Staff use shared language, tools, and strategies to reinforce positive behavior and reduce risk.
  • Responses are consistent, proportionate, and grounded in skill.
  • Situations resolve more quickly, safety is maintained, and individuals can return to their routines with dignity and support.

Wherever safety and dignity matter, Pivot sets the standard.
